====================================================================== URW Classico (Optima) ====================================================================== 2009-03-07 Bob Tennent rdt(at)tennent.ca This directory contains a zip archive uop.zip providing a set of Postscript Type-1 fonts, which URW has made available for non-commercial use under the Aladdin Free Public License: font name files ----------------------------------------- URWClassico-Reg uopr8a.afm uopr8a.pfm uopr8a.pfb URWClassico-Ita uopri8a.afm uopri8a.pfm uopri8a.pfb URWClassico-Bol uopb8a.afm uopb8a.pfm uopb8a.pfb URWClassico-BolIta uopbi8a.afm uopbi8a.pfm uopbi8a.pfb The fonts are accompanied by the TeX font metrics, virtual fonts, font definition and font mapping files to use them with the LaTeX typesetting system on the PC or Un*x platforms. These were produced using version 1.929 of fontinst, following the instructions given in the Type1 Font Installation Guide: info/Type1fonts/fontinstallationguide The layout of the distribution and the related installation instructions suit recent, TDS-compliant TeX systems, including teTeX and MikTeX. Installing the Files -------------------- Unzip the archive at the root of a texmf hierarchy, preferably a "local" tree, such as $HOME/texmf or /usr/local/share/texmf on a Un*x-like system or C:\localtexmf on a Windows system; the documentation of your LaTeX distribution should tell you where to install new files. Updating the Filename Database ------------------------------ Most LaTeX systems improve the efficiency of file access by maintaining a data base of file names. The documentation of your LaTeX distribution should tell you what you have to do to update this data base after adding new files. For example, on a teTeX-based system, execute texhash On a MikTeX system, execute initexmf -u or click on Options and then the Refresh button for the file-name database. Configuring the Font Maps ------------------------- LaTeX systems maintain map files which associate font files with font names. The file uop.map in the archive defines the appropriate associations for these fonts. The documentation of your LaTeX distribution should tell you what you have to do to add the associations in uop.map to the global map file or files. For example, on a teTeX-3 system, execute updmap-sys --enable Map=uop.map or add Map uop.map to updmap.cfg and run updmap or updmap-sys. On a MikTeX system: + Run initexmf --edit-config-file updmap and add the following at the end of the file: Map uop.map + Save the file and exit Notepad. + Refresh the file name database and run initexmf --mkmaps Using the URWClassico Fonts in LaTeX ------------------------------------ Add the following to the preamble of your document to make these fonts the default for sans serif: \renewcommand{\sfdefault}{uop} To make sans serif (instead of the "Roman" family) the default for ordinary text, also add \renewcommand{\rmdefault}{\sfdefault} License ------- The URW Classico fonts are Copyright (c) 2000 by (URW)++ Design & Development They were downloaded from http://www.artifex.com/downloads/ Distribution and modification of the URW Classico fonts are subject to the Aladdin Free Public License which is available here: http://www.artifex.com/downloads/doc/Public.htm and has also been included in the archive as the file doc/fonts/urw/Public.htm This license allows modification and *non-commercial* distribution, but not distribution in a commercial product. The TeX font metrics, virtual fonts and font definition files for URW Classico may be distributed and/or modified under the conditions of the LaTeX Project Public License, either version 1.3 of this license or (at your option) any later version. The latest version of this license is in http://www.latex-project.org/lppl.txt and version 1.3 or later is part of all distributions of LaTeX version 2003/12/01 or later.
